Tax filing calendars
The recurring federal dates a board needs on its calendar, and where the calendar still depends on your own facts.
A calendar-year association's federal income tax return, Form 1120-H or Form 1120, is due the 15th day of the 4th month after the tax year ends, April 15 for most associations. Once expected annual tax reaches $500, quarterly estimated tax installments are also due. An association with employees files Form 941 every quarter.
The annual return: one date, two forms
Whichever return the association files this year, Form 1120-H or the regular Form 1120, the due date is the same: the 15th day of the 4th month after the association's tax year ends. For a calendar-year association, that is April 15. If the due date lands on a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day.
The choice between the two forms is made fresh every year, not locked in permanently, so "which return are we filing this year" is itself a question the calendar should force the board to ask before the deadline, not on it.
Estimated tax: four dates before the return is due
Corporations, including associations filing either Form 1120-H or Form 1120, generally must make quarterly estimated tax installments once total expected tax for the year reaches $500. For a calendar-year association those installments fall on the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th, and 12th months of the tax year, again shifting to the next business day if one lands on a weekend or holiday.
This is easy to miss because it depends on an estimate made partway through the year, not on the final numbers the return will show. A board that only thinks about taxes in the weeks before the return is due can walk past two or three of these dates without noticing.
If the association has payroll or pays contractors
An association with even one employee, including a part-time on-site manager paid directly, is an employer for federal payroll tax purposes.
"Most employers with one or more employees subject to income tax withholding or FICA taxes must file Form 941 each quarter."

That means Form 941 is a recurring, quarterly item on the calendar, separate from the annual income tax return.
Payments to contractors and vendors add a different recurring task. For tax years beginning after 2025, the general information-return reporting threshold rose to $2,000. Before making a reportable payment, the association should already have collected a Form W-9 from the payee, since chasing it after the fact is how 1099 reporting deadlines get missed. Filing 10 or more information returns of any kind in a year, counting all types together, requires e-filing all of them.
What to confirm before you build the calendar
Corporations can generally request a filing extension, but the length of the extension and the current filing procedure vary by year and are not something to guess at; confirm the current mechanics with your CPA or the IRS instructions for the year in question.
Your state may set its own income tax, sales or use tax, and annual corporate report deadlines, entirely separate from these federal ones; check your secretary of state's filing calendar and ask a CPA licensed in your state. See state tax returns and annual reports.
Once a date is on the calendar, keeping the paperwork behind it is a separate task; see financial record retention for how long to hold onto what these filings produce.

Answer before you read the explanation, recalling it is what makes it stick.
A calendar-year association's tax year ends December 31. When is its Form 1120-H due, absent an extension?
Partway through the year, the board expects the association's total tax to reach $1,200. What does this trigger?
The association will file six Form 1099-NEC and five Form 1099-INT this year. Must it e-file them?
